During my time at the workshop, I had the privilege of witnessing ongoing projects that showcased the ingenuity of local craftsmanship. With attentive eyes, I observed artisans skillfully manipulating bamboo, their hands moving with a fluidity that spoke of years of tradition and dedication. They imparted their knowledge, revealing the secrets of constructing structural elements that harmonise with the environment as if each piece were a note in a symphonic composition that celebrates the beauty of the earth.
Motivated by this newfound understanding, I turned my passion toward a project that aimed to breathe new life into the abandoned “Ghost Palace Hotel,” a haunting relic of the past. My design envisions a revitalization of this site, repurposing Balinese heritage through the incorporation of sustainable bamboo ornaments that reflect the island's rich cultural tapestry. These elegant embellishments would grace the structures, weaving together threads of history and modernity, creating a dialogue between the old and the new.
In this endeavour, I strive not only to honor the craftsmanship that inspired me but also to showcase the potential of bamboo as a sustainable building material. By reviving the “Ghost Palace,” we can transform it into a beacon of renewal, a sanctuary where the spirit of Bali flourishes anew, inviting all who enter to experience the harmony of nature and human artistry entwined.
