Elevated Junctions

My project draws its inspiration from a recent trip to Seoul, where I immersed myself in the dynamic interplay of themes such as ‘junction’ and ‘elevation.’ This vibrant city, a tapestry of history and modernity, offered a unique lens through which to examine how diverse materials converge and how architecture can elevate vernacular designs to create innovative spaces. I dedicated my time to observing these interactions, translating my insights into visual sketches that captured the essence of my surroundings.

As I explored, I envisioned a project centered around a food market stall—an intersection of culture, community, and cuisine. Through both model-making and 3D digital modeling, I endeavored to delve deeper into the architectural elements that define such vibrant venues. Each model served as a canvas to experiment with materials and forms, allowing me to explore how they could come together to create a cohesive and inviting space.

The paper model I created serves as a significant stepping stone, transforming my initial ideas into a tangible proposal for an architectural space. Infused with inspiration from the connections and junctions I discovered during my explorations, I aspired to design various moments within the space that invite interaction and engagement. From inviting entryways to intimate seating alcoves, my vision seeks to create a sensory experience that enhances the communal atmosphere.

This project is an ongoing endeavor, one that I am excited to further develop later in the year. I look forward to deepening my exploration of these themes, refining my designs, and ultimately creating a space that celebrates the rich cultural tapestry of Seoul while fostering connections among its inhabitants. Through this journey, I aim to weave together architecture and community, creating a vibrant narrative that honors the essence of place.
